Emotions Under Glass |
|
For most of us, at least some of the time, our emotions are covered. It’s difficult to be vulnerable because we’re taught that certain emotions are “good” and others are “bad.” It’s ok to show some emotions, but not others. It’s often “normal” to not “feel” or acknowledge emotions. The title of the series evolved from the phrase “pheasant under glass” –a magnificent feast which is covered to protect it until the meal is served. Likewise, the emotions are encased. The glass can be removed from the pheasant. One side of the box is shielded with bubble wrap, a commonly utilized protection, but one which can be removed easily. The wrap is not attached perfectly and some of the bubbles are broken because we are unable to protect our emotions perfectly. I show both “positive” and “negative” emotions in their “pure” state – in a “bubble world.” I have taken a serious topic and played with it both figuratively and literally. |
